All-Day Closure


Superintendent Michael Thurmond announced that all schools in the DeKalb County School District will be closed on Thursday, February 26, due to a declaration by Governor Nathan Deal that a state of emergency for disaster preparedness exists in the northern part of Georgia because of anticipated inclement weather. There will be no after school or extracurricular school activities, except for state basketball playoff games which will be played according to schedule, if conditions allow. Twelve-month employees are to report to work at 11:00a.m., if weather conditions allow.

  • On Monday, February 23, 2015, there will be a FLP Parent Meeting at the AIC at 1:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. Please add to your calendar.
  • We invite all parent to Freedom Middle School for Diversity Training, February 25, 2015 at 10:00am.  Brunch will be served, and there is no cost. All are welcome!  Please RSVP Mrs. Philandrea Guillory at (678) 874 - 8702, or email her at
  • Come out to Lakeside High School on Saturday, February 28th to support the Freedom Rams Track Teams. The field events will begin at 11:00am.​
  • We have 4 remaining Flexible Learning Program sessions this semester. Please attend on March 7, March 14, March 21, and March 28.

Inclement Weather Update
In order to ensure that learning opportunities continue during inclement weather periods, the Division of Curriculum and Instruction compiled a list of instructional resources for students and parents. The attached document contains additional content/grade-level resources that parents and students can access electronically to support learning and mastery of the curriculum. In the event schools are closed or delayed, the District will share the information through the DeKalb App, Infinite Campus, K-12 alerts, Facebook, Twitter, and the DCSD website.

Please congratulate Sherry King for being awarded the DCSD's Campus Supervisor of the Year and Cassandra Cook for being awarded the DCSD's Middle School Resource Officer of the Year. We applaud their dedication to providing safety and security to our campus each day. Mrs. King and Officer Cook have established themselves as positive role models for the students and staff at FMS.

On August 25, 2014 the Campus Portal was launched for parents and students. Please go to the main DCSD webpage ( -- click Parents tab --Infinite Campus Portal. This site has links, videos, and documents that will guide parents and students through the process of accessing the portal. It's a FREE app!!  Don't forget to download the DCSD's app for your mobile devices. The app provides access to district and local school news, calendars, notifications, lunches, social media, and much more! Remember, it's FREE!
Comcast Essentials Program
This program offers home Internet service for only $9.95 a month for families living within the Comcast service area. To qualify for this program, at least one child in the family must qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. For more information go to For your convenience, the Comcast Parent-Student flyer has been translated into several different languages:  Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Haitian/Creole, Vietnamese, Somali. 
Microsoft Student Advantage Program
